The .22-250 Remington is what most people would call a varmint round and may also be called the 22 varminter. This cartridge has great hydrostatic shock potential, hydrostatic shock is akin to temporary cavitation. If you read the FBI Handgun Ballistics they state however that temporary cavitation has little to no permanent damage, it\'s the permanent cavitation that does the real damage.

This doesn\'t mean that the .22-250 Remington isn\'t lethal it\'s a very fast round traveling some 4000 fps or 2727 mph. More slightly larger rounds travel in the 3000fps range so this thing is fast. A great round for crow, groundhogs, coyote, and other varmints you may find on your ranch.

Although it has the name Remington appended to it, this cartridge was designed by Grosvenor Gebby & J.E. Smith, and is simply manufactured by Remington. The case is a mod of the .250-3000 Savage
