5/5Marlin XL7
Posted by Michael Koenig
The Marlin XL7 is Marlins affordable, dependable, and accurate medium to large game hunting rifle that stacks up a bit higher than it's entry level competitors. The Marlin XL7 has everything you need, and nothing you don't. The rifle is fairly accurate right out of the box, and comes in the 3 popular hunting cartridges the 30-06, the 270 Win, and the smaller 25-06 Rem. The Marlin XL7 is a great gun for hunting Deer, Mule Deer, Elk, and Bear if chambered in the larger 30-06 or 270 Win cartridge.
This gun has a twist rate of 1:10 and it's barrel is free floating (with the exception of one point), it has a very smooth bolt system that includes a fluted bolt that can be removed with but a single button click making it easier to clean. The gun weighs just over 6 lbs making it very easy to haul, it has a 22" barrel, and a very nice recoil pad for those shooting the 270 and 30-06.
The XL7 by Marlin has an internal top loading magazine that holds 4 rounds, and of course the ability to add another round to the chamber makes the grand total capacity 5. It has a nice safety that clearly identifies the guns status as either red (round in chamber) or not red (no round in chamber).
It has a very ergonomic grip, and a perfect little cheek rest that holds well to your face with the synthetics. It does not ship with a scope or bi-pod so if you are interested in prone shooting to more than 50 yards you may want to pick up at least a scope.
The Marlin XL7 has proven itself to be a reliable and great gun for the money, and it just may be the best bang for the buck in the $275-$350 price range. Other version of this rifle are out there, some with camo, and the newer ones I believe even come in a wood for all you old schoolers out there. All in all a great gun, please post your own reviews, comments, questions, and photos. Thanks for reading.
