The Sig Sauer P556 Pistol is one of two AR-15 style semi-automatic pistols designed by Sig Sauer to replace the P550 and P551 series models. The P556 pistol differs from the SWAT by having a two piece polymer for-end, along with an M16A2 style muzzle flash suppressor. It has a 16-inch cold hammer forged barrel, and a 1:7" rifle twist. It fires a 10-100 round magazine of 5.56mm NATO ammunition.
The overall length of the P556 Pistol is 20.5-inches, with a barrel length of 10-inches. It operates on a gas piston system similar to the AR-15, with a rotating bolt that ejects the spent round and chambers the next one to be fired in succession. It has a M1913 Picatinny rail for mounting accessories such as, tactical laser or light, a rotary diopter rear and front sight, or a stoplight. The pistol also has sling attachment points for basic or three point slings, along with a tool free disassembly.
