The Sig Sauer P556 SWAT is one of two AR-15 pistol designs that have some features added to them. The overall length of the P556 SWAT is 20.5-inches, with a barrel length of 10-inches. The barrel has a 1:7-inch twist, and is a cold hammer forged barrel, that features a aluminum quad rail hand guard. It is a semi-automatic weapon that fires 5.56mm NATO rounds, and holds various sized magazines ranging from 10 on up to 100 rounds. The SWAT version has an aluminum for-end with 4 Picatinny rails that run from the gas block to the receiver, along with a longer muzzle flash suppressor than the pistol version.
The P556 SWAT has an M1913 rail for mounting accessories such as, tactical light or laser, stop light, or rotary diopter rear and hooded front sight set. The ejection system is a gas operated rotating bolt system, and it has an AMBI safety selector switch. The upper receiver is made of stainless steel with a Nitron finish, and lower receiver is made of aluminum with a black hard coat anodize finish. It also has sling attachment points for basic or three point slings, and a tool free disassembly.
