The Model 870™ SPS™ Shurshot™ Synthetic Super Slug made by Remington is the perfect gun to take down deer and smaller species of bear like the black bear. The barrel is actually connected to the receiver unlike most shotgun models. This provides better shot stability for that follow up shot.
If you are shooting at an above normal distance you need a larger and heavier barrel to provide increased stability. If you were shooting dove it would be different. This gun is meant to shoot slugs so this makes complete sense.
