0/5Winchester Model 70 Safari Express
Posted by Jason Brumett
The word Express is usely used to describe versions of a product that are flimsy and don't handle as well or have all the features of their full version counterparts. This is not the case for the fabled Model 70™ Safari Express a gun chambered in such large rounds as 416 remington magnum, 458 winchester magnum, and 375 H&H magnum. This gun has to be built touch to wishstand the forces that those bullets will create on not just the barrel but the entire frame and system.
The Model 70™ Safari Express has some special features like the pre-64 claw extractor (most of the model 70's after 1964 have a weak bolt extraction), A Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad (while some non Safari Express model 70s have this feature not all do), dual recoil lugs and reinforced stock add additional support for the punishement created by these larger rounds, it also has a hunged magazine floorplate that is made from stool.
Point in summary...The model 70 Safari Express is not a lightweight flimsy gun as the name may elude to, but rather a reinforced large caliber chambered gun that will take down large game on your next walkabout or safari.
